The waves grew larger as the sun set. These were probably in the 8-12 ft range. Shortly before this, I made a foolish decision to body surf on the break closest to shore. The result was my first fight with a rip tide. It took 20 minutes to reclaim the 30 yards of surf back to shore. Had it not been for these awesome waves pushing me back in, I would have cried “uncle!” for sure…
