Legend has it that a crate of Jamaican Quaker parrots broke up while being loaded off a plane at Idlewild Airport (now JFK) back in 1960. For whatever reason, they settled in Greenwood Cemetery and haven’t left since. Currently, there are around 25 breeding pairs who cohabitate near the entrance to the cemetery.
