Zucotti Park – October 15th, 2011

As of October 15th, the Occupy Wall Street movement had been down in lower Manhattan for almost a month. Many argue as to what the point of the protests are (I saw agendas ranging from marijuana legalization to pro-communist conversion movements), but nobody can argue that these gatherings aren’t sparking up much needed discourse amongst young and old with regards to the state of this country. One person I spoke to described the gatherings as “a minestrone soup of angst”. It seemed as though this was partially true for adults, but most of the kids were just there to have a good time and enjoy a life without responsibility. I wasn’t surprised to see that most didn’t understand that the majority of people who work on the street (like myself) make less than most teachers out on Long Island…

Zucotti Park is the home base for OWS. There was lots of talk about the police moving in and forcing the protesters out in order to clean the park. The occupants stood their ground and the park’s owners backed off. From what I saw, things were relatively clean, but who knows what was underneath all of those tarps…

This guy’s tarp was blocking one of the pathways. One of the park’s owners told him to keep everything clean or they’d be kicked out. He ended up attacking another one of the protesters after he was yelled at again.
